Day 28: Blessed assurance

One act of thanksgiving made when things go wrong is worth a thousand when things go well. - St. John of the Cross

It's hard to trust God. It's much easier to trust myself. I want to know that things will work out, even when I see destruction, disease, and sorrow all around me.

I want to know that maybe just around the corner, there is success waiting at work, at home, in school. Finally I will be recognized. Finally I will see the meaning of my life. Finally my dreams will come true.

But that's not faith.

Faith is when it all just doesn't make sense, I can't find the good in the story, and it feels hopeless, but I choose to trust God. I that he has control over the whole world and my whole life, not just the parts that seem to be going well or that I like.

Trust is not my gut reaction, but it is a choice.

The opposite of sin is never virtue, but faith. - Madeleine L'Engle
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

What are we thankful for today?

How has God shown us that he can be trusted to provide for us?
